Published by University at Buffalo Art Galleries on the occasion of Clayton Pond: A Retrospective at the University at Buffalo Art Galleries, UB Anderson Gallery, April 10–July 31, 2026, this catalog describes the artists career and tells the story of how his his work became part of a transformative gift to the galleries by David K. to the ordinary. Painstakingly rendered details of domestic environments, mechanisms from machinery, and details of streetside columns are all imbued with curiosity and humor.
These works centralize the relationship between colors, balancing tight compositions with unexpected color shifts and pairings. Pond works in series, sometimes enlarging certain details from his large-format paintings and pulling them into smaller paintings as the main focus, or reshaping an existing image into a series of screenprints. This repetition reinforces a visual language.
