This painting, made shortly after the artist moved to his Greene Street Studio in SoHo, shows an interior view of his make-shift kitchen. The artist guides the viewer’s eye around the composition, creating a visual play-off between the focal point of the refrigerator’s large red block of color against the vibrant surrounding patterns and textures of the wallpaper, vinyl flooring, brick wall and the radiator. The radiator and toaster oven later became the subject of one of his serigraph prints from the “Things in My Studio” series.
