Chair Abstracted

This painting, based on the artist’s recurring iconic chair image, is a playful take on abstract art. There are many whimsical details in this work that engage the viewer. The artist used loose, painterly brushwork and the device of shadowing in some shape areas, causing them to lift off the surface as if in three-dimensions.

The chair image has been revisited by the artist in numerous variations throughout his career.
This painting was commissioned by a private collector and was derived from two earlier, smaller paintings, “Party Chair” and “My Last Chair Ever”.
