Coming About I

This abstract painting is based on overlapping images of the earlier “Sailing Canoe” paintings I and II, inspired by the artist’s antique Peterborough Canadian wooden sailing canoe. The “Coming About” paintings are unique in the way the artist created the illusion of transparent overlays while using completely opaque colors. This painting is a diptych, made on two equal sized canvases bolted together.

There are nine paintings in the series. All were made on two or more canvases. The “Coming About” paintings #1 through #8 were exhibited in a one man show at the DeGraaf Gallery in Chicago in 1989. “Coming About #9” was commissioned by a private collector.
