Sailing Canoe was commissioned by the Madison Print Club in 1986. The artist restored an antique Canadian Canoe made in Peterborough, Canada that he had acquired at Lake Pleasant, NY in the Adirondack Mountains. During the labor intensive restoration process he came to appreciate the elegant shapes and design of the canoe. The image, based on the form of the canoe, appears quite abstract.
