This image was created in a figure drawing class. The print was a seminal work in which the artist explored using many colors, similar to those he was using in his paintings, in a relief printing process using oil paint hand-brushed onto cardboard blocks. The process is similar to the woodcut process and was a lead in to the artist’s subsequent silkscreen work creating multi-colored images in multiples. It was the first piece the artist entered in a national juried exhibition and he won the Pierce Trowbridge Wetter Memorial Purchase Prize Award, in the Society of American Graphic Artists’ 46th Annual Exhibition in NYC.
