In 1967 Pond conducted a silkscreen workshop in Nairobi, Kenya, with local artists while on a tour lecturing about Contemporary American Art. He made this print as a demonstration, working along side his African students. He was in East Africa on an American Specialist State Department Grant sponsored by the International Art Porgram of the Smithsonian Institution and the Abby Gray Foundation. The subject for this piece came from a drawing Pond made while sitting in the bathtub of his hotel room the night before he was to start making a print in the workshop.
