Oil on linen

Artwork Size: 48 x 36"

Collection of the artist

When the artist visited the home of his 90-year-old grandmother in Douglaston, NY (on Long Island) he noticed this electric fan perched on an antique footstool in front of an antique bookcase. He liked the juxtaposition of the modern object with the antiques. His treatment of the fan and footstool is a humorous take on the classic still-life paintings of a bowl of fruit on a table. The artist’s animated line and vibrant colors make the fan and stool together look like an imaginary creature. This painting is in the collection of the artist and is one of 4 variations of the same subject. The other three versions are in private collections.
