Coming About Series/Sailing Canoe

Artwork Size: 18 x 24"

Private collection

The artist acquired an antique Canadian wooden sailing canoe, made in 1914 in Peterborough, Ontario. He restored the canoe and sails it on a lake in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York every summer. During the labor intensive restoration process he came to appreciate the elegant design of the boat. This image, while appearing abstract, is based on the shapes and forms in the canoe. “Sailing Canoe I” is the first in a series of three. “Sailing Canoe I, II, & III” were the basis of the larger “Coming About” series of paintings that followed.
