Made for ARTIST’S PROOF, A Journal of American Printmaking, Volume VI, Numbers 9-10, 1966, New York, NY. In this image the artist delights in the play between positive and negative space and stimulates the viewer’s eye with vibrating colors. When asked by ARTIST’S PROOF to make the frontispiece tipped-in print for their Journal, the young artist saw it as an opportunity to have his work seen by many. ARTIST’S PROOF was then the preeminent journal for contemporary printmaking and was subscribed to by art collectors, art schools, galleries and museums.
The artist hand-signed each one of the 7500 prints created for this publication.
